Hillclimb
Held at Collingrove in the beautiful Barossa Valley, near Angaston, these are solo events run against the clock on a closed section of road or special Hillclimb track. Collingrove is the one most used by our Club. Each Competitor usually has a chance to practice before the official competition begins.
MSCA Super Sprint
MGCCSA is a member of the Marque Sports Car Association of SA and a number of our members have regularly competed at Mallala Super Sprints. The MSCA philosophy has always been to keep these events as cheap as possible and to run them as well as we can. They are currently the cheapest Super Sprint in the country despite regular increases in track hire fees, ambulance, recovery, etc and, in some circles, are considered the best run club level events.
Numbers over recent years have dwindled and for the past two years events have generally been run at break even or a loss which is a concern to the MSCA and may mean an increase in entry fees.
As the MGCC MSCA delegate I would be interested to hear from members about their thoughts on the Super Sprints. Whether you are a current, former or would-be competitor your feedback would be appreciated. I know we lost a few competitors when roll bars became mandatory but what else keeps you away, keeps you coming or could be done to make the experience better?
Please contact Murray on 0419 565 970 or email Stephenson@esc.net.au.
Motorkhana
Designed to test the skill and judgment of the driver and the general maneuverability of the car. The event, held at the Big W complex at Monarto, comprises of a number of manoeuvering tests set out on an open area eg, a car park. On arrival competitors are given a copy of the nominated tests, and the competitors compete one at a time and are required to negotiate the test by the correct method in the fastest possible time.

Motorsport Mutterings – March 2019
The 2019 motorsport year is under way and I hope you are ready for the fun.
Keep watching the calendar on the website but following are the first events of interest.Sunday 17 March – Super Sprint Round 1
The first round of the MSCA Super Sprint series will be run on 17 March at Mallala. I trust you have your entries in and are ready to go.
MG Car Club is required to provide flag marshals for this round so, if you are able to help, please call me to let me know you are available. Sign on at 8am on the day and enjoy the competition.
The Come and Try component to this event is also a great opportunity for new sprinters to receive some tuition from experienced sprinters and see the fun of sprinting. If you have entered I hope you have a great time.Sunday 24 March – SA Motorkhana Championship Series Round 1
MGCCSA is running the first motorkhana of the SA Championship Series on the skidpan at Mallala. As usual, we will be running the National Meeting courses to provide some practice prior to the Nat Meet in Queensland.
To make this event viable we need lots of competitors and we need helpers for set up, timing, marshalling and pack up.
If you haven’t tried motorkhanas before, there is a Come & Try component so you can have a go. C&T participants don’t need to belong to a car club or have a licence, it is provided with the entry.
Supp Regs and entry form are on the website and, although not mandatory, it would be appreciated if you could enter before the day. Please contact Murray to volunteer your services for the day.Sunday 7 April – Multi Club Hillclimb Round 1, Collingrove
The first multi club Hillclimb will be run at Collingrove on 7 April. Get your entries in early on CAMS event entry system as this event will fill quickly.
Looking further ahead;
We will be hoping to run a team at the Peter Hall Memorial Six Hour on 5 May so, if you are interested, let me know.
The second MSCA super sprint will be at The Bend on 16 June and there will be requirement for far more officials than we use at Mallala. Please put it in your diary and consider coming out to help.
In 2019 the MG Club Challenge over the Queen’s Birthday weekend is scheduled for Victoria so keep the June 8 to 10 weekend free. There will be more information to come but the proposed venue and format sounds great.
I will not be standing for the committee at the AGM so this is my last mutterings. Thank you to all the competitors, officials and followers who have supported and encouraged me for the past eight years on the committee. It has been a great experience and I wish my successor all the best.
Motorsport Mutterings – February 2019
Happy New Year MG motorsport fanatics.
The 2019 club motorsport year will again be filled with great events and a lot of fun. I trust your cars are ready for a hard work out over the coming year.
As usual the club championship will include the SA Motorkhana Championships (a series of five motorkhanas), five super sprints with one at The Bend and four multi club hillclimbs. In addition we will have the National Meeting in Queensland and the MG Club Challenge in Victoria.
Keep watching the calendar on the website but following are the first events of interest.
Sunday 24 February – MSCA Picnic and Presentations
The MSCA presentation picnic will be held at: Virgara Winery, Heaslip Rd, Angle Vale.
The display area has plenty of shade and space for an enjoyable social event and we gather to recognize the class winners from the 2018 Super Sprint season. It’s a pleasant drive in the MG to Angle Vale where we can enjoy a BYO picnic lunch (BYO food and drinks). The winery will be open and there is food available nearby, including the winery restaurant, if you wish.
As usual, start set up around 11am and have our display ready for judging approx 1pm. MGCC has done well in the display competition in the past but the competition has become quite fierce in recent years.
Sunday 17 March – Super Sprint Round 1
Round 1 of the MSCA Super Sprint series will be run on 17 March at Mallala. Entries are submitted via the CAMS Event Entry system which is accessed through the member portal. Supp Regs will be on the MSCA website.
There will be a Come and Try component to this event where super sprint novices can participate in the sprint sessions as well as receive some tuition from experienced sprinters. This is well worthwhile for those who haven’t been on the track before, including juniors aged 14 or more, to gain the experience with training and supervision. Promote this to your friends and family as participants do not need to belong to a car club and do not need a CAMS licence.
MGCC SA is on duty to provide flaggies for this event and we need approx six volunteers. Please let Murray know if you are available to assist. It’s a great way to see the action.Sunday 24 February – SA Motorkhana Championship Series Round 1
The first motorkhana of the SA Championship Series will be run by the MG Car Club of SA on the skidpan at Mallala. This event is an opportunity for those going to the Nat Meet at Easter to have a practice on the Nat Meet courses. ( to view the tests - click here )
MGCC runs the first round so, in addition to competitors, we will be looking for members to help with timing, marshalling, set up and pack up. Officials will be fed and watered on the day and it is a lot of fun.
There is also a non-competitive Come and Try segment to the event which means anybody, club member or not, can buy a day licence and do the courses to see why it is so much fun. C&T participants do not have to be a member of a car club so bring out friends and family members for the day.
Supp Regs and entry form are on the website and, although not mandatory, it would be appreciated if you could enter before the day. Please contact Murray to volunteer your services for the day.
Sunday 7 April – Multi Club Hillclimb Round 1, Collingrove
The first multi club Hillclimb will be run at Collingrove on 7 April. Get your entries in early on CAMS event entry system as this event will fill quickly.
Remember the Nat Meet will be held in Queensland over Easter, 19 to 23 April, so have a look on the website and get your entry organised. Nat Meets are a great MG tradition and a lot of fun whether you enjoy the competition, touring or social events.
7 - 9 June - MG Club Challenge
In 2019 the MG Club Challenge over the Queen’s Birthday weekend is scheduled for Victoria so keep the June 8 to 10 weekend free. There will be more information to come but the proposed venue and format sounds great.
Motorsport Mutterings – Dec 2018
Upcoming Events for MG Motorsport
CAMS calendar is almost complete and every effort has been made to spread out events better. MSCA will again run five super sprints and the Peter Hall Memorial Six Hour with one of the sprints at The Bend in June. This round will require more flaggies than a Mallala sprint so a call will be made for more officials.
The following are a few early events for 2019 to mark in your diary now.
Sunday 24 February – MSCA Presentation Picnic
This will be held at the Virgara Winery in Angle Vale with the usual format of a BYO picnic lunch, club display and presentations of the 2018 championship awards. More details to come in the new year.
Sunday 17 March – MSCA Super Sprint Round 1, Mallala
The first round of the super sprint series will include a Come & Try component so consider giving this opportunity to someone for Christmas. It’s a great program with classroom tuition and on track training to develop skills and learn about sprinting.
MGCC is on duty to provide flaggies for round one.Sunday 24 March – State Motorkhana Championship Round 1
Round one of the State Motorkhana championship will be run by MGCCSA so we will be calling for helpers. As yet the venue is to be decided but it may well be Mallala skidpan again.
June Long Weekend – MG Club Challenge
It is Victoria’s turn to host the Challenge in 2019 and they are considering a two day event at Bryant Park in Moe, Victoria over the long weekend, 7th to 9th June. Bryant Park is a new Hillclimb facility built in 2008 with six different Hillclimb configurations. The format is yet to be decided but it should be a great weekend with little driving between events and a variety of tracks over the weekend. Mark it in the diary now and consider coming to play.
Thanks to all the competitors, officials and supporters during the 2018 season. It has been a busy year including the regular sprints, hillclimbs and motorkhanas and the Challenge at Collingrove and The Bend.
Enjoy the Christmas and New Year break and take the opportunity to get the cars ready for 2019.
Merry Christmas.
Motorsport Mutterings – Oct 2018
Upcoming Events for MG Motorsport
CAMS calendar activity continues and it is anticipated that the MGCC motorsport calendar for 2019 will again include the MSCA Super Sprints, Sporting Car Club Multi Club Hillclimbs and five rounds of the State Motorkhana Championship. Added to that will be the National Meeting and Challenge.
MGCCSA will again run the first round of the motorkhana series early in the year and contribute flaggies to two super sprints at Mallala. Note that you do not have to limit yourself to the two nominated MGCC flagging days. If you would like to do more you are welcome at every sprint and, should MSCA run an event at The Bend, there will be a call for as many flaggies as we can find.
Last month I wrongly reported the date for the final MSCA Super Sprint. It is on 28 October as reported below.Friday 12 October to Sunday 14 October – SA Hillclimb Championship, Collingrove
This is a good event to compete or spectate. Practice is on Friday and competition starts with the first run on Saturday morning. The event brings out the best of SA hillclimbers as well as a number of interstate competitors. The competition can be fierce and you can see some cars which are not generally seen in SA. Come and have a look and say g’day to the MGCC members competing.
As it is an open event you need a CAMS Log Book unless you run in the road registered class but have a look at Supp Regs to confirm you are eligible.
Entries via CAMS event entry system.Wednesday 17 October – Ferrari Club Australia National Meeting, The Bend
The response to our call for officials for the FCA Nat Meet sprint at The Bend has been great. Thank you. I believe we have provided enough for the event but if you are still keen and haven’t volunteered yet please contact Ian Crouch, icrouch@adam.com.au, to see if there is room.
Even if you are not helping I am sure you could wander out to have a look and a listen.Sunday 28 October – MSCA Super Sprint Round 5, Mallala
This is the final round of the MSCA Super Sprint Series so your last chance to score points towards the end of year trophies.
Competitor entries are taken via the CAMS event entry system accessed through the CAMS member portal. Don’t forget to include your Dorian number on the car description in meecams and nominate your previous best lap time to enable grids to be set up.
For those who don’t have a Dorian remember the Club has four which can be hired for $20 a day.November 28 to 30 – Adelaide Rally
The MG Car Club is again helping out with the Adelaide Rally again in 2018 running competition stages at The Bend.
There will be a number of stages at The Bend which MGCC will be controlling so we need help from experienced and novice officials. This will be the first day of competition and there will be some great cars to watch.
Register at http://aglrallysa.com.au/register-adelaide-rally-official/ and they will keep you informed as the event approaches. Be sure to mark your registration that you want to work with the MG Car Club on Thursday. If you want to work other days feel free to register and maybe put together a group of club members. If the online registration is too hard let me know and we’ll help make it work. Please also let me know when you have registered so I can keep a tally of the available workforce.
All officials will receive a pass to the Adelaide Motorsport Festival for the Saturday and Sunday.
More detail will come to hand over the next few months but, if you’re interested, mark Thursday 29 November in your diary as a day to come and help out while watching some top action and great cars."a photo of my next restoration project. Sadly, it’s only a Ford, or was"
Motorsport Mutterings – Sep 2018
Upcoming Events for MG Motorsport
After a few very busy months of motorsport September looks very quiet. Time to regroup and get ready for the next onslaught.
This is the time of year when all clubs begin to compile the motorsport calen-dar for the next year and the first full year availability of The Bend adds a new dynamic which will change things. It makes available a second, and even-tually a third, circuit for sprints so dates may be easier to select but it will come at increased cost. The MSCA delegates have been working recently to develop the 2019 calendar with a clear call from members for spreading out the calendar better and some action at The Bend. Whatever is decided by MSCA then has to fit in with the track owners and the CAMS calendar, i.e. no significant clashes.
Besides the significant difference in cost for The Bend, i.e. a super sprint for an MSCA member will go from $95 at Mallala to around $250 - $300 each at The Bend, there is a requirement for many more officials and, given that we struggle to find ten flaggies for Mallala, finding twenty two to thirty for The Bend will be a push. One suggestion, as in some rallies, is that the drivers will have to find a flaggy for their entry to be accepted.
I will keep you informed of developments but if you have any thoughts or suggestions please let me know.
Sunday 28 October – MSCA Super Sprint Round 5, Mallala
This is the final round of the MSCA Super Sprint Series so your last chance to score points towards the end of year trophies.
Competitor entries are taken via the CAMS event entry system accessed through the CAMS members portal. Don’t forget to include your Dorian number on the car description in meecams and nominate your previous best lap time to enable grids to be set up.
For those who don’t have a Dorian remember the Club has four which can be hired for $20 a day.
Friday 12 October to Sunday 14 October SA Hillclimb Championship, Collingrove
Friday is generally a practice day and competition starts with the first run on Saturday morning. There are generally several interstate competitors at the SA Champs so the competition can be fierce and you can see some cars which are not generally seen in SA. Come and have a look and say g’day to the MGCC members competing.
Entries via CAMS event entry system.
Wednesday 17 October – Ferrari Club Australia National Meeting, The Bend
FCA has asked MGCCSA to assist with flaggies for their Nat Meet sprint at The Bend and so far the response from our members has been great. It should be an interesting day watching some superb cars being used in anger, how they should be! The sounds and sights should be great. Note it is a Wednesday but if you haven’t signed up and would like to please contact me or Ian Crouch, icrouch@adam.com.au
November 28 to 30 – Adelaide Rally
Following the success of our stages at Mallala in the 2017 Adelaide Rally, the MG Car Club has been asked to help out with the Adelaide Rally again in 2018 running competition stages at The Bend.
There will be a number of stages at The Bend which MGCC will be controlling so we need help from experienced and novice officials. This will be the first day of competition and there will be some great cars to watch.
Register at http://aglrallysa.com.au/register-adelaide-rally-official/ and they will keep you informed as the event ap-proaches.
More detail will come to hand over the next few months but, if you’re interested, mark Thursday 29 November in your diary as a day to come and help out while watching some top action and great cars.
Karen and I will be away for most of September but rest assured we will return with a wonderful article and photos of camping in the West Mac-Donnell Ranges. Something different for the web site.
Motorsport Mutterings – July 2018
Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 June – MG Club Challenge
The MG interstate Club Challenge over the Queen’s Birthday weekend went off really well with representation from Geelong, Victoria and New South Wales MG Car Clubs. Geelong took home the trophy ahead of SA, Vic and NSW. See articles elsewhere in this magazine and the website.
Thank you to the thirty or so MGCC SA members who came out to help on the Sunday as well as the MSCA members who helped to make the event a success.
Sunday 15 July – MSCA Super Sprint Round 3, Mallala
Round 3 was to include a Come & Try section but this has unfortunately been postponed until the August round.
Round 3 is also a round for which MGCCSA provides flag marshals so please let me know if you can assist. Those who have done this before, and those who tried it at The Bend for the first time, know you get the best seats in the house to watch the action. You will also receive a great lunch and the opportunity for some parade laps at lunchtime all at no cost to you. No experience is needed as you will be teamed with someone who can show you the ropes.
Competitor entries via the CAMS event entry system accessed through the CAMS members portal.Sunday 22 July – SCCSA Multi Club Hillclimb Round 3, Collingrove
Round 3 will be held at Collingrove on 22nd July. Come out to compete or support the MGCC members on track. It’s a great location for a day out with some good entertainment.
Entries via CAMS event entry system.Sunday 29 July – SA Motorkhana Championship Round 5, Mallala
The final round of the SA Motorkhana Championship series will be held on the Mallala skidpan on July 29th. This is the final chance to practise before the Australian Championship so some of the serious contenders will be looking for some practice time. Come out to have a go or watch some great car control. As usual, there is an opportunity to Come & Try for first timers.
Sunday 19 August – MSCA Super Sprint Round 4 with Come & Try, Mallala
Note the change of date for the round 4 super sprint. It was on the 26th but that clashes with the V8 Taxi Cabs at The Bend so the sprint was brought forward a week.
This round includes a Come & Try section for those who haven’t tried sprinting before or are looking to polish their skills. In the C&T group you will receive expert classroom tuition and supervised on track sessions to learn what it’s all about and to have some fun. Alternatively, consider giving the opportunity to a family member or friend. Participants do not need to belong to a car club and they purchase a competition licence for the day. It’s great fun and you will learn something. Be careful, motorsport is addictive!November 28 – 30 – Adelaide Rally
Following the success of our stages at Mallala in the 2017 Adelaide Rally, the MG Car Club has been asked to help out with the Adelaide Rally again in 2018 running a number of stages at The Bend.
More detail will come to hand over the next few months but, if you’re interested, mark Wednesday 28 November in your diary as a day to come and help out while watching some top action and great cars.

Round 3 will include a Come & Try section so, if you have ever thought about getting out there on track for some fun, to improve your driving techniques or just to have a look at the track, this is your opportunity. You will receive expert classroom tuition and supervised on track sessions to learn what it’s all about and to have some fun. Alternatively, consider giving the opportunity to a family member or friend. Participants do not need to belong to a car club and they purchase a competition licence for the day. It’s great fun and you will learn something. Be careful, motorsport is addictive!

Motorsport Mutterings – February 2018
Happy New Year motorsport fans. The 2018 club motorsport year promises to be very busy and a lot of fun. I hope you have used the Christmas break well to have your cars ready.

Keep watching the calendar on the website but following are the first events of interest.
Sunday 18 February – Motorkhana Series Round 1

MGCC is running the event so, in addition to competitors, we will need members to come out to help with timing, marshalling, set up and pack up. Officials will be fed and watered on the day and it is a lot of fun.
If you haven’t tried it before there is a non-competitive Come and Try segment to the event which means anybody, club member or not, can buy a day licence and do the courses to see why it is so much fun. Bring out friends and family members for the day.
Supp Regs and entry form are on the website and, although not mandatory, it would be appreciated if you could enter before the day. Please contact Murray or Peter to volunteer your services for the day.
Motorkhanas in Adelaide were poorly attended in 2017 for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is the lack of a suitable and economical track, and if they are to continue we need to get out and support them.
Friday 23 February – 2017 Motorsport Presentations
Awards for the 2017 MG motorsport championship will be awarded at a presentation night at the clubrooms on 23 February.
Rodney Gibb will have his latest toy, an MG ZT Super Tourer, on display and will address the gathering on MG racing in the MGF. The ZT sounds like an amazing beast and should be very interesting to inspect and hear about.
A BBQ tea is also being organized by Mick Mitolo at a cost of $5 per head. Please come along to enjoy a great evening.
Please let Dick Manning know if you are coming for dinner to facilitate catering.
Sunday 25 February – MSCA Picnic and Presentations
The MSCA presentation picnic will be held at: Paxton Wines, Lot 100 Wheaton Rd, via Budgens Rd, McLaren Vale. Check out the location at www.paxtonwines.com
The winery will have wines and beer available to purchase and have asked that we do not bring our own wine and beer please and we support the business as they are not charging us a fee.
It’s BYO lunch and other drinks and, as usual, start set up around 11am and have our display ready for judging approx 1pm.
Sunday 11 March – Super Sprint Round 1
Round 1 of the MSCA Super Sprint series will be run on 11 March at Mallala. Entries by CAMS Event Entry system and Supp Regs are on the MSCA website. Note that this event is always the best attended so you would be wise to get your entries in early.
There will be a Come and Try component to this event where super sprint novices can participate in the sprint sessions as well as receive some tuition from experienced sprinters. This is well worthwhile for those who haven’t been on the track before including juniors, aged 14 or more, to gain the experience with training and supervision.
MGCC SA is on duty to provide flaggies for this event and we need approx six volunteers. Please let Peter or Murray know if you are available to assist. It’s a great way to see the action.
Sunday 8 April – Multi Club Hillclimb Round 1, Collingrove
The first multi club Hillclimb will be run at Collingrove on 8 April. Get your entries in early on CAMS event entry system as this event will fill quickly. Note this is one week after Easter, and the Nat Meet, so it will be a busy start to the month.
By now you should be well organized for the Nat Meet in Tassie and looking forward to a great Easter overseas. The Tasmanians in the north run a great event so the Hillclimb and motorkhana should be fun interspersed with some great social activity.
Looking ahead a bit further MGCCSA will be running the Club Challenge over the Queen’s Birthday weekend, see a full page article elsewhere in this magazine. We will have a Hillclimb at Collingrove on Saturday 9 June and a Super Sprint at The Bend on Sunday 10 June. When we call for entries you would be wise to get in early because we expect the interest to be keen. We will also be looking for helpers that weekend for flaggies, marshalls, timing, etc and, as this is our first event at The Bend, a surplus of helpers would be preferred. More about this later but keep watching MG Motoring and the website.
Motorsport Mutterings Nov 2017
The 2017 club motorsport year has finished and we’ve had a great year of sprints, hillclimbs and motorkhanas as well as our own National Meeting and the Challenge in Victoria. The first draft of the 2018 CAMS calendar is out and we are working through the date clashes and venue availability but it should be another fun year. The usual mix of local events will be joined by a Nat Meet in Tassie and a Challenge in SA. So it’s now time to get those cars tidied up and ready to go for another full season.
Keep watching the calendar on the website but the following events may be of interest.
November 10 to 12 – Legend of the Lakes
A number of MGCC members are going to Mount Gambier to compete in the Legend of the Lakes. It’s a great event run over two or three days near the centre of Mount Gambier. It’s worth a look if you have the time for a run to the Mount.
Friday 8 December – Shannons Adelaide Rally
MGCC SA is managing the rally stages on the Friday at Mallala. It will be two stages, a motorkhana type course on the skidpan and a sprint on the circuit. We will be running the stages and marshalling spectators and competitors. If you are able to assist there may still be time to go to and register for the Friday with MG Car Club. All helpers will be given a free pass to the Adelaide Motorsport Festival for the Saturday and Sunday in Victoria Park.
Motorsport Mutterings Oct 2017
At this stage our 2018 Interclub Challenge is pencilled in for The Bend in June and we await further details from Peregrine. It would be very exciting to have our event on the new track and we expect would attract great interest.

Keep watching the calendar on the website but the next upcoming events are detailed below.Sunday 22 October – MSCA Super Sprint Round 5, Mallala

This is the final series round but also incorporates the Australian Motorkhana Championship so attracts some good competition. Even if you don’t enter it would be a good one to watch. The SA Championship was held at Mount Gambier recently and had a field of fifty serious competitors having a go in terrible conditions.
Friday 8 December – Shannons Adelaide Rally
MGCC SA is managing the rally stages on the Friday. Unfortunately the decision has been made to run the stages at Mallala as works at The Bend will not be up to a level suitable for the competition.
We are still needed to assist and it will be a very entertaining event.
It will be an early start and early finish and you will be given a free pass to the Adelaide Motorsport Festival on the Saturday and Sunday.
Motorsport Mutterings Sep 2017

Motorsport Mutterings Aug 2017
Nissan Datsun Car Club (NDCC) ran the motorkhana on July second and, as usual, borrowed the MGCC trailer with all the motorkhana equipment. Nigel Drinkwater from NDCC picked up and returned the trailer.
In regular Nigel fashion he could not return the trailer without fixing something which in the past has included new door struts and jockey wheel. This time it was repairing some water leaks, replacing the wiring plug, installing tracks across the floor to locate the concrete blocks and installing two shelves to carry tables and light items. In addition he and his wife washed all the safety vests, folded them and packed them in a suit case for safe keeping.
Nigel works for Aldom Motor Body Builders who donated the materials and equipment to do this work and supported Nigel’s activities.
We owe a big thank you to Mark Haigh at Aldom for his generous support and to Nigel and his wife for all the work on our trailer. It is greatly appreciated.Keep watching the calendar on the website but the next upcoming events are detailed below.
Sunday 13 August – Multi Club Hillclimb, Round 4, Collingrove

Entries for round 4 will be taken on CAMS event entry system accessed via the CAMS Members Portal.
Entry numbers have been good this year, largely due to being multi club events, so be sure to get your entry in early.Hillclimb Championships

Both of these events attract the fastest hillclimbers in the country and many come to the SA Champs as practice so either get your entries in or plan to come and have a look.

Queen’s Birthday Weekend June 10 & 11 – MG Challenge, Victoria
The MG Challenge has not been run since 2014 but it is on again in 2017. It is a great opportunity to get together for some fun motorsport and social activity. This year it is in Victoria and the invitation has been extended to other states. A Hillclimb at Rob Roy and a super sprint at Sandown make up the motor sport components and with the potential demise of Sandown in the not too distant future this may be one of the last opportunities to compete there.
Contact Murray or Peter if you are interested to enter.Sunday 18 June – MSCA Super Sprint Round 2, Mallala
The second round of the MSCA Super Sprint series will be held at Mallala on June 18th. Given the full field at Round 1 you would be wise to get entries in early. Note that entries will be taken on CAMS event entry system accessed via the CAMS Members Portal.

The Six Hour is coming up in four weeks. It’s a great team event which tests twenty five teams against each other to cover the most laps at a steady pace. The pit crew is as important as the drivers so, if you haven’t volunteered yet, please contact Murray or Peter to volunteer.
Queen’s Birthday Weekend – MG Challenge, Victoria
The MG Challenge is another great traditional rivalry between Victoria and South Australia which is generally run each year, alternating between Vic and SA. Due to Nat Meets and other distractions it has not been run since 2014. This year it is in Victoria. A Hillclimb at Rob Roy and a super sprint at Sandown make up the motor sport components and there is always time for one or two social outings for a good feed and a chat. With the potential demise of Sandown in the not too distant future this may be one of the last opportunities to compete there.
Contact Murray or Peter if you are interested to enter.
Motorsport Mutterings March 2017
The 2017 calendar is under way with the first motorkhana and the MSCA picnic done.
Keep an eye on the calendar on the website but the next upcoming events are detailed below.MSCA Super Sprint Round 1 – Sunday 12 March
MGCC provides flaggies for round 1 so your assistance is sought with this event. Please contact Peter Coulson or me if you can help.
Round 1 in 2017 is also the first time a Come & Try Super Sprint will be run in SA. New sprinters will receive a number of classroom sessions and untimed on track tuition in their own car with one-on-one tutors to help develop driving skills and sprinting technique. If you haven’t tried sprinting before and/or are thinking about trying it at the Nat Meet for the first time this is a great opportunity to see what it is all about.
Consider it for yourself or a friend as participants do not need to be a member of a car club or have a CAMS licence. Check the MSCA or MGCCSA websites or call Peter or Murray.Motorkhana Round 2 – Sunday 9 April
Round 2 motorkhana will be run at Mallala on 9 July.
All the SA motorkhana series events include Come & Try so if you haven’t tried it yet, come along and see how much fun it is.

The Six Hour is an excellent team event which is run at Mallala for up to 25 teams of drivers attempting to amass the most laps while maintaining a steady pace. It’s a lot of fun for drivers and crew and we finish up with the presentation dinner after the event. Team Emgee has had some success in the past and hope to do well again. We require up to six drivers as well as helpers for timing and various other duties to make the team run smoothly. If you are interested please contact Murray or Peter. It seems a long way off but it will be on us sooner than you think.
Motorsport Mutterings Jan / Feb 2017
Happy New Year and welcome to the 2017 MGCC Motorsport year.
The calendar for 2017 is very busy including five MSCA Super Sprints, five motorkhanas and four Collingrove Multi-Club hillclimbs for the motorsport championship (“two stars”) and five events counting towards the Club Championship (“one star”), those being the MSCA Peter Hall Memorial Six Hour, the National Meeting Motorkhana and Sprint (Adelaide) and the MG Challenge Sprint and Hillclimb (Melbourne).
The full calendar is on the website but the first events requiring your attention are detailed below.
This calendar will keep the competitors busy for the year but it is also crucial that we have officials and helpers to contribute to the many events. This work is very important and a great way to be involved in the sport at no cost. These include the National Meeting, round 1 motorkhana and the first MSCA Super Sprint.
Please contact Peter (0419 215 964) or me (0419 565 970) if you can help.
The first events for 2017 for MGCCSA are:
Motorkhana Round 1 – Sunday 19 February
MG runs this round so we need helpers to set up, time and pack up on the day. Please contact Peter or Murray to offer your services and watch the website for entry forms.
Traditionally we run the National Meeting courses at this round as it provides an opportunity to familiarise ourselves with these courses prior to the National Meeting. It’s not practice, it’s familiarisation! It is also an opportunity for officials to practise for the Nat Meet and help us to run the National Meeting motorkhana more smoothly.Sunday 26 February – MSCA Picnic at Angle Vale
This will be held at the Virgara Winery on Heaslip Road Angle Vale with plenty of shade and space for an enjoyable social event and to recognize the class winners from the 2016 Super Sprint season.
It’s a good opportunity to bring out the MGs for a pleasant drive to Angle Vale and enjoy a picnic lunch (BYO food and drinks). The winery will be open and the restaurant may be available, if that’s more your thing, but check if you need to book ahead.
MGCC won the Clubs’ display in 2016 with the 1956 theme to mark the club’s 60th birthday and we will be trying again this year.
MSCA Super Sprint Round 1 – Sunday 12 March
The first super sprint is one round for which MGCC provides flaggies so your assistance will be sought with this day as well.
Round 1 2017 will for the first time in SA include a have a Come & Try component. New sprinters will receive classroom and on track tuition in techniques of car control and sprinting from one-on-one tutors and will participate in a controlled group of similar C&T drivers.
If you haven’t tried sprinting before and/or are thinking about trying it at the Nat Meet for the first time this is a great opportunity to see what it is all about.
Participants do not need to be a member of a car club or have a CAMS licence. The vehicle requirements are also reduced and a fire extinguisher may not be required if all flag points can be manned. Hence we will be seeking extra flaggies.Friday 14 April to Monday 17 April – MG National Meeting in Adelaide.
This year’s National Meeting includes a Super Sprint at Mallala and a motorkhana in Adelaide. These events will require lots of helpers and entrants and are well covered on the website.
If you are not entering please seriously consider offering your assistance to Peter Coulson to help at these events and make the Nat Meet a success.
Sunday 7 May – Peter Hall Memorial Six Hour.
This excellent team event is run at Mallala and Club Emgee has had some success in the past. We require up to six drivers as well as helpers for timing and various other duties to make the team run smoothly.
If you are interested please contact Murray or Peter. It seems a long way off but it will be on us sooner than you think.
Motorsport Mutterings Dec 2016
The final rounds of the MGCCSA championship for 2016 were run in October so we have started planning the 2017 motorsport year.
The CAMS calendar is fairly well fixed and we have the possibility of five super sprints, six motorkhanas and four multi club hillclimbs. If you toss in the Peter Hall Memorial Six Hour, state championships for Hillclimb and motorkhana as well as the four winter cup hillclimbs you could have a very busy year. Oh, and don’t forget the Australian Hillclimb championships at Collingrove, the National Meeting and an MG Challenge. That’s twenty seven events!
Get those cars ready over Christmas because it will be a fun year.
Most importantly though we have the National Meeting at Easter, 14 to 18 April, which is an opportunity for our club to show our fellow MG enthusiast from around the country some great SA hospitality and keen motorsport competition.
Please get onto the website natmeet2017.mgccsa.org.au to look at the events available and consider registration as a Social or Competition participant. From the motorsport view there will be a super sprint and a motorkhana which will be conducted in the same format as our regular MSCA and state series events but limited to MGs only. The sight of full grids of MGs at Mallala is great to see and a lot of fun.
Our great supporters at MSCA and the motorkhana panel will be assisting with running these events but there will be a need for more of our members to help. Whether you choose to register for the Nat Meet or not your help will be greatly appreciated in whatever way you can assist so please contact Peter Coulson to volunteer.
Our first two events for 2017 will be:
Motorkhana Round 1 – Sunday 19 February
MGCCSA runs this round so we will be seeking helpers to set up, time and pack up on the day. Peter and Murray will be chasing helpers early in the New Year for this event or you can get in early and volunteer now.
Traditionally we run the Nat Meet courses at this round as it provides an opportunity to familiarise ourselves with these courses prior to the Nat Meet. It’s not practice, it’s familiarisation!MSCA Super Sprint Round 1 – Sunday 12 March
The first super sprint is one round for which MGCC provides flaggies so your assistance will be sought with this day as well.
Round 1 2017 will also see an innovation for SA super sprints, it will have a Come & Try component.
Participants do not need to be a member of a car club or have a CAMS licence so consider it as a Christmas gift for a child, friend or grand child. It will be about technique more than about speed. Thanks to all our competitors, officials and supporters for making 2016 such a great year.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Peter Coulson and Murray Stephenson.
Motorsport Mutterings Nov 2016
The Super Sprint run recently was the final round of the MGCCSA championship for 2016.
This doesn’t mean the end of motorsport for the year.
Planning is well under way for the 2017 calendar and we have confirmed Mallala dates for super sprints and the Peter Hall Six Hour. Motorkhana and Hillclimb dates are a bit more flexible so the discussion continues but it is shaping up to be a very busy year.
Spend the Christmas lull wisely getting the cars ready!
In addition to the regular events we will also have a National Meeting at Easter in Adelaide and an Inter Club Challenge in Melbourne at Queen’s Birthday weekend which will be a Rob Roy Hillclimb and a Sandown Super Sprint.
Another exciting addition to the calendar for 2017 will be a Come and Try Super Sprint. This will allow new sprinters to receive some tuition and guidance from an experienced sprinter at their first event while still completing the full sprint program. If you have thought about sprinting but had some doubts, or you know someone who has, this is a great opportunity to get involved.
The Come & Try is currently scheduled for Sunday 12 March at Mallala and it will be supervised by the MSCA Victorian team who have been running these for some years and have offered to come and help MSCA SA get started. This would be a great lead up to the Nat Meet if you are thinking of competing.
Upcoming events in the next month/s are:
Saturday 29 October is a Come & Try Hillclimb at Collingrove
Which is an opportunity for new competitors to try hillclimbing.
Sunday 30 November is Multi Club Hillclimb Round 3 at Collingrove
Which is the final event counting towards the MGCC SA championship.
Entries are through the CAMS online event entry system which is accessed via the CAMS Member Portal.
I believe entries are still open but you will need to get in soon if you wish to enter.November 17 to 19 – Classic Adelaide Rally
See some great classic cars getting around SA roads in touring or competition mode.
See the cars up close at the Friday night Gouger Street Party and the Twilight stage in Victoria Park on the Saturday evening. Check the website for details of tickets and times. www.classicadelaide.com.auNovember 19 to 20 – Victoria Park Sprint
The other half of the Adelaide Motorsport Festival is the Victoria Park Sprint which overlaps the Classic Adelaide. See some amazing cars being driven as they should be including historic Formula 1 cars and a great array of classics. Should be an amazing weekend! www.adelaidemotorsportfestival.com.au
Motorsport Mutterings Oct 2016
The cancelled Round 4 Motorkhana has moved again. Originally scheduled for 14 August it was moved to 9 October with the state champs but that clashed with Bathurst and they wouldn’t move so it is now on Saturday 29 October at Mallala. See details below.
October sees the last few events for the MGCC 2016 calendar and we are already well into negotiating dates for 2017 which should include the usual mix of super sprints, hillclimbs, motorkhanas and the National Meeting plus a bonus Club Challenge in Melbourne. Will be a busy year.
Upcoming events in the next months are:
Sunday 23 October – MSCA Super Sprint Round 5, Mallala
The final round of the Super Sprint series will be run at Mallala on October 23rd. Supp Regs are available on the website and entries close on Friday 14 October. Get the entry in as early as possible as this round will be well subscribed. Triumph Sports Owners Association is holding its national meeting in SA and using this event as their speed event.
Saturday 29 October – South Australian Motorkhana Championship & Round 4
The SA Motorkhana Champs has moved again to avoid Bathurst. It will be run on Saturday (yes Saturday!) 29 October at Mallala. It will incorporate the Round 4 motorkhana which was cancelled. The normal state champs give competitors one run at each course so the first run will count for the Championship and, if you wish, you can do a second run and the quicker of the two will count for round 4. Sounds complex but it will work. Remember it is on a Saturday.
Sunday 30 October – Multi Club Hillclimb Collingrove
The final multi club Hillclimb will be run at Collingrove which is the final event of the MGCC competition calendar. Entries through the CAMS online event entry system which is accessed via the CAMS member portal. This will be a big weekend, especially if you have included the spit roast on Saturday night!
Motorsport Mutterings Sep 2016
Unfortunately Round 4 of the Motorkhana series, scheduled for 14August, was cancelled due to the lack of an available venue. Recently all motorkhanas have been run on the Mallala skidpan but it is understood that an insurance company is now regularly booking the venue for driver training. This issue has also caused the SA Motorkhana Championship to be moved to Sunday 9 October at Mallala.
A considerable effort is being put into the location of a suitable alternative motorkhana venue and some positive steps are being taken with enthusiastic support from the Port Adelaide Enfield council including the Mayor, Gary Johanson. The first priority is a site for the 2017 National Meeting motorkhana but a suitable site for future motorkhana series events would be the ultimate goal.
If you have, or know of, a spare concrete or bitumen pad, a hectare or so, that could be used for motorkhanas we would love to hear from you.

Sunday 19 June – Super Sprint Round 2, Mallala.
It’s been a long time since round 1 in February but round 2 is coming up soon. If you deferred your entry from round 1 don’t forget to let Sue know you are coming. Supp Regs and entry form are on the MSCA website, www.mscasa.com, and entry fees can be paid by EFT. When you print the entry form print the scrutineering form as well and fill out what is required. Sunday 26 June – Motorkhana Round 3.
This event was initially scheduled for 29 May but was postponed due to a clash of events which would have made access to the motorkhana track difficult. A motorcycle racing event charging spectators entry fees. The event will be run on the Mallala skidpan again. The Supp Regs and entry form are on the website and an early entry will help the organizers to prepare for the event in advance. As is normal practice this event has a Come and Try entry available so, if you haven’t tried it before, come along and have a go. You might enjoy it.
Sunday 3 July – Multi Club Hillclimb Round 2, Collingrove.
Supp Regs and Entry details are on our website and entry is done through the CAMS online entry system prior to the event. Collingrove is a challenging technical track for the driver and an entertaining day out for the spectators. Sunday 17 July – Super Sprint Round 3, Mallala.
As usual Supp Regs and entry form are on the MSCA website, www.mscasa.com, and entry fees can be paid by EFT. Entries close Friday 8 July.

MG Challenge 2017 – June Queen’s Birthday
I have had a call from the MGCC of Victoria seeking expressions of interest for an MG Challenge on the Queen’s Birthday weekend in 2017, i.e. 10-12 June, which may be a Sandown sprint and a Rob Roy Hillclimb. If Sandown is not available they would try for Calder. I understand there may be limited opportunities to run at Sandown before it becomes another housing estate!
This will be two months after the National Meeting in Adelaide so you will be ready to compete again. Please let me know if you are interested as the Vics need an indication of numbers before discussions go too far.Prima Tour – Classic Adelaide
In conjunction with the Festival of Motorsport and the Classic Adelaide the Sporting Car Club is conducting the Prima Tour to give enthusiasts a taste of the Classic Adelaide roads in a social run through the Adelaide Hills, Barossa and Fleurieu. See the poster for more information.

We require four to six cars and four to six drivers as well as helpers for timing and various other duties to make the team run smoothly. If you are interested please contact Murray on 0419 565 970.

Motorsport Night – Cody Hill
Friday 19 February, 7:30pm at the Clubrooms, Cody Hill addressed a gathering of twenty six members at the clubrooms giving us an insight to his recent and ongoing racing in the UK and Europe. After success in the MGF series in SA and the MG Road Racing Championship in Victoria Cody went to England to compete. He showed us some in car footage in the MGZR series in which he has some success. That looks like exciting racing but is apparently quite ruthless! Take no prisoners!
Cody has made a serious commitment to his racing, using any savings he had and working where he can to earn the money to race. Sounds like hard work but he clearly has the talent.
This year he intends to run the European 24 hour series having started with the Dubai 24 Hour in January where he was part of a team running a Renault Clio Sport.
After his chat, some video and questions Cory presented the Motorsport trophies for the 2015 season and supper was served. It was a most enjoyable night and we will be arranging another one in the near future. Thanks to Rodney Gibb for inviting Cody and to Bev and Karen for the supper.
***********************************************************************************************
Cody is a young South Australian driver currently enjoying success in the UK and Europe.
He started out with seven years racing in go-karts followed by Formula Vee, SA MGF Series and MG Road Racing Championship in Victoria. He was the 2011 SA MGF Trophy Series Champion and the 2013 Victorian MG Road Racing Champion. In 2015 he raced in the British MG Trophy series and the Barcelona-Spain 24 Hour. He has also had race wins at Mallory Park, Brands Hatch and Oulton Park in England.
Come along and hear about some great motorsport experiences in an area of motorsport most of us will never see.
Cody will present the 2015 Motorsport Awards and supper will be served.
Motorsport Mutterings Jan 2016
Happy New Year and welcome to the 2016 MGCC Motorsport year.
The calendar for 2016 includes five MSCA Super Sprints, four Big W Monarto motorkhanas and four Collingrove Multi-Club hillclimbs for the motorsport championship (“two stars”) and three events counting towards the Club Championship (“one star”), those being the MSCA Peter Hall Memorial Six Hour and the National Meeting Motorkhana and Sprint (Perth).
The full calendar is on the website but the first events requiring your attention are detailed below.
The first events for 2016 for MGCCSA are:
Sunday 7 February – Motorkhana Round 1 at Monarto.
MGCCSA organizes and runs this event so we need officials and competitors. The Supp Regs and entry form are on the website and I encourage you to enter before the day as this is generally the best supported round for the year. Note: it is the only motorkhana before the National Meeting and a great chance to practise before you go to Perth. This event has a Come and Try entry available so, if you haven’t tried it before, you can compete on a day licence and see why we find it so much fun. Beware, it can be addictive!
Friday 19 February – Motorsport Night, Cody Hill
Come along to our next motorsport night at the Clubrooms on Friday 19 February to hear Cody Hill speak about his motorsport career, to date, fresh from a 24 Hour Race in Dubai. Cody has had great success in MG racing in Australia and has been competing regularly in Europe, UK and middle east for the past few years. The evening starts at 7:30pm with supper after Cody has had a chat and you have had the opportunity to ask questions. Cody will present the trophies for the 2015 motorsport championship and supper will be served.
Sunday 21 February – MSCA Super Sprint Round 1 at Mallala.
The Super Sprints are multi club events again for 2016 so I encourage you to enter early as it is hoped numbers will be up. Closing date for entries is Friday 12 February unless sold out prior. The entry fee has increased to $95 for MSCA members so it remains great value as well as great fun. Remember to complete your MSCA membership form and have Arthur sign it to confirm your membership of the MGCC. MSCA membership is $25 for 2016.
MGCCSA is on duty for this event so we need at least six officials to wave flags for the day. You will be fed and have the opportunity to do some parade laps at lunchtime in your car. Please let me know if you can help.
Sunday 28 February – MSCA Picnic at Mount Barker
This will be held at the Mount Barker Football grounds, same as 2015, with plenty of shade and space for an enjoyable social event and to recognize the class winners from the 2015 Super Sprint season. It’s a good opportunity to bring out the MGs for a pleasant drive to Mount Barker and enjoy a picnic lunch (BYO food and drinks). MGCC won the Clubs’ display in 2015 with the MGA 60th birthday and we will be trying again this year.
We have had a number of birthday themes in the past so, with 2016 being the 60th anniversary of our Club, we propose to celebrate the year of 1956. We will prepare some posters highlighting events of 1956, e.g. Melbourne Olympics, television starting, etc, but if you can come up with fashions, sporting equipment, relics (not human) of 1956 it would add to the presentation. For example, old tennis racquets, posters, advertising, etc. Dress to impress as if it is 1956!
Friday 25 March to Monday 28 March – MG National Meeting in Perth.
This year’s National Meeting includes a Super Sprint and a motorkhana in Perth. The Early Bird discount has closed but entries are still open. If you are intending to go please let Bev know and get your entries in ASAP.
Sunday 1 May – Peter Hall Memorial Six Hour.
This is a great team event run at Mallala and Club Emgee finished fourth in 2015 so we aiming higher this year. We require up to six drivers as well as helpers for timing and various other duties to make the team run smoothly. If you are interested please contact Murray on 0419 565 970 or John on 0413 647 728. It seems a long way off but it will be on us sooner than you think.
Motorsport Mutterings - XMAS 2015
Greetings All,
Those who attended the motorsport evening on Friday 13 November enjoyed an entertaining and amusing chat with Barry Lowe and his wife/co-driver Helen about their rallying career(s). Barry also brought along his VH Commodore rally car which was very impressive. Too clean for a rally car! A mere 600HP at the rear wheels allows him to shred a set of tyres in 30km, sounds like a lot of fun to drive. Thanks to Dick Manning for arranging the evening and to Bev and Karen for the supper.Unfortunately, the next day Allan Semmler had a call from our neighbour across the lane whose Suzuki Swift was damaged in the lane on Friday night between 9 and 9:30pm but the offending driver left no information. I trust it was not one of our members but if anyone saw, or knows, anything please contact Allan or me. We need to keep in our neighbours’ good books where we can.
The 2015 motorsport year has finished so we are preparing for a busy 2016:
· Motorkhana Round 1 will be held on 7 February at Monarto and it is run by the MGCC so we will need helpers for entries, marshalling and timing. Please let John Davies or me know if you can help. Come to compete, help or observe, it’s great fun.
· Motorsport Evening and Trophy Presentations on Friday 19 February at the clubrooms where Cody Hill will chat with us about his motor racing history and current activities. Cody is a young local driver who had considerable success racing MGs in Australia and is currently pursuing his racing career in the UK and Europe. He will be home in Adelaide for a short time in February and has agreed to come and chat with us. Start 7:30pm, Cody will speak and present the trophies for the 2015 motorsport season. Supper will be provided. Thanks to Rodney Gibb for setting up the contact with Cody.
· Super Sprint round 1 at Mallala is on Sunday 21 February and MGCC is required to provide flaggies for this round. Please let John or me know if you can help.
· MSCA Presentation Picnic will be at Mount Barker Football Ground on Sunday 28 February, the same location as last year. Please have a think about a theme for our display and let me know your thoughts.
A more detailed calendar will appear in the next magazine and on the website.
Have a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and get those cars ready for 2016.
Regards,
Murray Stephenson
Motorsport Mutterings - Dec 2015
We have just completed a very enjoyable and busy 2015 Motorsport season. Throughout the year we have had members compete at twelve MG Championship events including five MSCA Super Sprints, four Big W Motorkhanas and three Multi-Club Hill Climbs as well as the National Meeting Hillclimb and Motorkhana in Victoria. In addition to these events members have featured at the Peter Hall Memorial Six Hour, three Winter Cup Hill Climbs, the SA Hillclimb Championship and the SA Motorkhana Championship. In all this represents approximately 120 entries across more than twenty events.
That doesn’t include the Festival of Motorsport, open race meetings and other open events where members participated. It was great to see Peter Mathwin’s MGB GT V8 finish fifth outright at the revived Classic Adelaide.
MG Car Club members remain active across the local and interstate motorsport scene.
Our members are just as active in their support for motorsport in acting as officials at our events as well as at open events such as Clipsal, the Australian Grand Prix, local race meetings and many other events. We have seen many of our members steadily improving their performances as they come to grips with their cars and/or upgrade their vehicles, eg; Laurie’s new brakes, Rob Hall’s new engine and Scott’s Hyundai. Jason’s Lotus Batmobile is a weapon at Mallala but a bit of a handful at Monarto. Unfortunately, we have also seen some retirements such as Arthur selling the GT V8 and Wayne and Geraldine selling the MGF.
These events cannot happen without the hard work of a lot of people and the support of a strong club. I would like to thank the Committee for its backing in our motorsport endeavours, and particularly John Davies, Assistant Motor Sport Secretary, for his support.
Thank you to all the officials who wave flags, keep score, set up motorkhana courses and provide encouragement required at the events where MGCC members are competing.
Thank you to all the officials who have made our events work this year, to the spectators who cheer along the competitors, the drivers who compete enthusiastically and to the wives and partners who let us do all this.Have a Happy and safe Christmas, a great New Year, and have those cars ready to roll again in 2016.
2016 Motorsport Calendar:
The final draft of the calendar for 2016 has been published and went to CAMS State Council on 17 November (view). Our calendar will include four Monarto motorkhanas, five Mallala Super Sprints and four Collingrove Multi-Club hill Climbs as well as the MSCA Peter Hall Memorial Six Hour. There will be more information in the first magazine next year but watch the website as the season will be starting in the first week of February and you may not see the first magazine in time. Having Easter at the end of March has brought a number of events forward in the year.We will be running a team at the Peter Hall Memorial Six Hour on May 1st so, if you are interested, please contact John Davies or me soon as May will be on us sooner than you think.
The first events for 2016 for MGCCSA are:
* Sunday 7 February – Motorkhana Round 1 at Monarto. MGCCSA runs this event so we need officials and competitors. Note: it is the only motorkhana before the National Meeting and a great chance to practise
* Sunday 21 February – MSCA Super Sprint Round 1 at Mallala. We need officials for this one as well
* Sunday 28 February – MSCA Presentation and Picnic Day at Mount Barker Football Ground, same venue as 2015
* Friday 25 March to Monday 28 March – MG National Meeting in Perth. Super Sprint and a motorkhana
* 17 April - Big W Motorkhana Round 2 at Monarto
* 1 May - Peter Hall Memorial Six Hour Regularity at MallalaMulti Club Hillclimb Round 1 date to be decided.
The MSCA Super Sprints were run in 2015 as multi club events which improved numbers and this will continue into 2016. The multi club format means all members of CAMS affiliated clubs are welcome to compete so bring along any friends who are not members of MSCA. These are still the most economical and best run Super Sprints in the country.
MotorSport Rev Up for 2016
MSCA Annual General Meeting will be held at the MGCC clubrooms on Monday 9 November at 8 pm. This will include end of year reports, election of office bearers for 2016 and will be followed with supper. The MSCA serves us well in providing the Super Sprint series and it is good to support it and contribute to its continued operation.
Motorsport Evening with rally legend Barry Lowe on Friday 13 November at the clubrooms at 7:30 pm. Barry has been involved in rallying for some time and has been both SA (3 times) and Australian Rally Champion (twice). Come along and enjoy an entertaining evening followed by supper and have a look at some interesting cars on display. These rally competitors have some great yarns and experience to share.
MSCA Picnic and Presentation Day will be on Sunday 21 February at a location to be confirmed. This is a great opportunity to bring out the MGs and have a pleasant picnic run while supporting our regular competitors.
Our display on the day needs a theme so if you have any ideas please contact John Davies or me. Our Club’s sixtieth anniversary may be appropriate. The 2016 Motorsport Calendar is being prepared and it is anticipated that the first Motorkhana will be on 7 February and the first Super Sprint on 28 February.
This is unusually early but was the best date available given the early Easter and a busy calendar. MGCC will be running the Motorkhana and required to supply officials for the sprint.
When the calendar is confirmed I will publish more information but at this stage we expect to have five Super Sprints, five motorkhanas, four hillclimbs and the National Meeting.
Regards,
Murray Stephenson
Motorsport Mutterings – November 2015
The last Multi Club Hillclimb for 2015 was run last month to complete the Motorsport Calendar for the year. There will be a more complete summary of the year in the next magazine but we have seen some great competition and fun at Mallala, Collingrove and Monarto. There has been some steady development of some drivers and cars and some outstanding results from some old combinations.
Thanks to all the officials who have made these events work, the spectators who cheer along the competitors, the drivers who compete in vigorous and good natured spirit and don’t forget the wives and partners who let us do all this.

You can enter on the day but see the website for Supp Regs and entry form. There is no entry fee for MGCC members. We need officials and helpers to run this event so please come and give us a hand and/or a cheer. We need someone to tow the club trailer to the venue (hopefully for the last time as the Motorkhana Panel, and Big W have approved erecting a small storage shed on site)
Early helpers are needed to set up the courses before the event (approx 9am) and assist with taking entries prior to the event.
Then we need time keepers on the day. Please contact Murray, Bev or Tim if you can help.
- Scrutineering 9.30am - 10.30 am

The entry fee has again been held at $75 for MSCA members and non members will pay $95 which is still great value. Entries close on Friday 13 March but I encourage you to enter early as this event, hopefully, may see a better attendance than last year.
MGCCSA is on duty for this event so we need officials to wave flags for the day. You will be fed and have the opportunity to do some parade laps at lunchtime in your car. Please let me know if you can help.
** Friday 3 April to Monday 6 April – MG National Meeting in Melbourne.

The MSCA Six Hour has been named in honour of Peter Hall who worked very hard to promote grass roots motor sport and was a great supporter of the MGCC and our events.
The six hour is a great team event run at Mallala and we require up to six drivers as well as helpers for timing and various other duties to make the team run smoothly. A Team Manager is required as one of those helpers.
We hope to enter a team for the Six Hour again this year so if you are interested please contact Murray on 0419 565 970 or Bev on 0402 262 156.

Advance notice of the Driver Training Day to be run late May. This will be open to anyone and will include some emergency tests as well as highway driving techniques.
