Parades and Displays
ALL BRITISH DAY, ECHUNGA ON 10TH FEBRUARY, 2019
The MG Car Club was well represented at Echunga for All British Day. We had 57 entries and only the Jaguar Club exceeded that number – anyway that’s what the organizers told us.
It was an enjoyable day, cloudy but fine, ideal for a walk around the cars. It was capped off by another win for the MG Car Club of SA. Heather and Chris Bennett, in their MG TF, won the Sterling Jewellers Trophy for the best presented car at the event. Well done to the Bennetts.

MGCCSA at the Bay Sheffield, Proclamation Day 2018
The Club received a request to provide four cars for this event at Colley Reserve, Glenelg on 28 December 2018.
The forecast was for 39 degrees, but within half a kilometre of Glenelg the temperature dropped to a very acceptable level and there was a strong sea breeze, bad for the competitors running into it, but good for us. There were two TC’s, Athur Ruediger and Dick Manning, and Berry Treffers and Alan Cardnell arrived in MGB’s.
I will let the photos tell the story, four MG’s requested but fourteen bodies to fit in. Occupational Health and Safety representatives were fortunately not at the event.
Some impressive young athletes raced on the day. There was also a Celebrity Race, and, being an avid Crows fan, I have included a photo of the winner, Cam Ellis Youlman from the Adelaide Football Club. Well done Cam.

All MG Day – 9 Sep 2018
What a glorious morning to get the MG out of the shed and drive into the Torrens parade ground. The weather held up all day, with slightly mild and sunny conditions. This year’s event was held in the city close to the Adelaide Oval, the River Torrens and the shopping precinct of Rundle Mall.
Before many of the cars started to arrive, some members were out and about setting up the venue with tents and parking routes. As with any event there is a group of people that do the work behind the scenes in arranging venue access and the catering. Many thanks to Sandra Cardnell and Dick Manning for organising and running the event, Rob Hal for the PA and announcing, Steve Bowra on the gate, Tim Edmonds and Steve Spong doing traffic marshalling and Alan Cardnell setting up the tents and flags..
The catering arrived and soon the smell of bacon and eggs, and sausage sizzles from the Lions Club of Rostrevor, and fresh coffee from The Coffee Van hit the air. There was also a tent setup to sell models of cars and they had a raffle going as well.
All the cars made an entrance through the MG club banner (see pic) and made their way to park.
Many members milled around to look at the cars, whilst others went off for shopping or meals at eateries in the Mall.
These events allow members who generally don’t get the opportunity to meet, the time and space to look and talk about their cars.
The event was opened by our Patron Ed Ordynski, and our Vice President, Tim Edmonds welcomed those present. They informed the gathering of upcoming events, such as the talk with Gary Chapman on the 12th of Oct and the Adelaide Rally in Nov.
The model being celebrated for their 21st anniversary were the MGF’s and 9 of them presented on the day. Another 7 MGF/TF’s added to the numbers, giving a good representation of the model over the years. Dick Manning the F-Register co-ordinator counted 22, so some may have come in later.
Thanks to those who filled out the attendance slip. This gave us an overall picture of the number and type of MG’s attending. (see table below)
MG 1100 1, MG KN 1, MG Midget 1, MG NA 1, MG ND 1, MG TA 1, MG TC 4, MG TD 5, MG TF 6, MG ZR 1, MG ZS 1, MG ZS 180 1, MG ZT 1, MG ZT 220S 1, MG6 1, MGA 9, MGA spec 1, MGA Twincam 1, MGB 28, MGB GT 4, MGB GT V8 4, MGB V8 2, MGC GT 2, MGF 9, MGF/TF 7, MGY T 1, RV8 1, Grand Total 96
The MG’s ranged from Peter Cundy’s 1934 NA, to Chris & Wes Bray’s 2018 MG ZS.
Mention must be made of Geoff Burls and family bringing 5 MG’s to display!
Cars that stood out from the crowd were Bazz’s 1935 KN, Gary Julian’s MGC GT Sebring, Brendan Concannon’s MGA Supercharged Special. We were fortunate that we had members from other clubs, Austin 7, SCC and VSCC bring along the MG’s to display. We even had a non-member bring along their car.
Thanks to David McNabb and Allan Semmler for their photos of the day. To view the many, many other photos, click here.
Keep your eyes on the web site and magazine for any upcoming events in the future.

The Pre-War MG Register of Australia is holding its biennial rally at Yamba (NSW) in October 2017. Yamba is situated on the North coast of New South Wales in an area of world class beaches and great National Parks.
October is an ideal time of year for MG enthusiasts to attend, an average daytime temperature of 25ºC (77ºF), uncrowded beaches and open road touring on the back roads of the Northern Rivers.

McLaren Vale Vintage & Classic 2014
The 9th running of the McLaren Vale Vintage & Classic was held on Sunday 6th April.
At 11am the parade moves off with a tour down the Main Street with an estimated 15,000
people lining the route. You must make sure your horns are in tip top condition as they get
quite a work out and unfortunately mine gave up the ghost half way through. Thanks again Mr Lucas. From here it was back to our designated winery, this year also at Serafino for the individual car club display and lunch. And what a beautiful day it was with lunch on the lawns in front of the lake, with a glass of wine or two and entertainment by an excellent 1 piece band. The MG car club was again very well represented with approximately 35 cars entered with a
great cross section of the Marque including 2 TC's, 3 TD's, 1 TF, 2 Y Types, 3 MGA's, 20 MGB's, 2 MGC's, and 2 MGF/TF's. Our cars were also featured on the Channel 7 news that night. Sue and I also attended the dinner on the Saturday night where John 'Stonie' Stoneham interviewed By John Davies. 100 YEARS OF MORRIS - NUFFIELD DISPLAY DAY AT THE TORRENS PARADE GROUND - SUNDAY 19TH MAY 2013
NUFFIELD DISPLAY DAY Just over 200 Morris, MG, Wolseley and Riley cars and a couple of Commercial Vehicles were on display at the NUFFIELD Display Day celebrating 100 Years Of Morris held at the Torrens Parade Ground on Sunday the 19th May. After a week of lousy weather the sun shone and the rain stayed away for what was a well organized and very successful day.

THE STORY OF “MUSCLES” – The car is a 1925 4 seater tourer MG 14/28 SUPER SPORTS. The running chassis left the Morris Works late in September 1925. It was dispatched to MORRIS GARAGES where CECIL KIMBER weaved his own magic on the mechanicals, fitted a sporty aluminium body of his own design, finished it in two-tone of polished aluminium and a “special” blue colour enamel. He replaced the artillery wheels with open hub wire wheels and last, but by no means least, added the “piece de resistance” to the now greatly admired and famous Bullnose radiator, the rare and unique, MG SUPER SPORTS badge, comprising a half size Morris Oxford badge encircled in light blue with the words ‘THE MG SUPER SPORTS’. Not being completely satisfied with this, another badge, this time a St Christopher’s Medal, once again encircled with the words ‘MG SUPER SPORTS’, was attached to the instrument panel. On October 21st 1925, this magnificent example of Kimber’s brilliance appeared for the first time. The only resemblance to the Edwardian looking Morris Oxford, was the distinctive Bullnose radiator. This was a sleeker, lower and most decidedly faster looking car. This is the oldest original MG on the road anywhere in the world and it is believed that it was Cecil Kimber’s family car and the only vehicle to be painted in the SPECIAL BLUE COLOUR. The vehicle is owned by Julie Craig. Photographs thanks to Rod Calver |

SOUTH AUSTRALIAN ALL BRITISH DAY – SUNDAY 10 FEBRUARY 2013.
The inner area of the circles was taken up with very large marquees, provided by the organisers for entrants and their navigators to relax and take in the picture of beautifully cared for cars some of which were far better than how they came out of the factories way back when….
